Ace hardware

Ace is one of those places that I've always had respect for. they are a small hardware store in a nation of gigantic hardware stores. somehow they have survived where most Little hardware stores have failed. what's really interesting is there are things that you can get at Ace that you can't get it the big places. for instance, sometimes their key machine will make duplicate keys that the other places can't do.

the promised Land

the whole subject of the promised Land in the Bible has bothered me since my early years. it basically put the children of Israel through a similar test that Adam and Eve failed. now all these years later at the time of entering the promised Land the children of Israel are to go in and slaughter all the men women and children at the edge of the sword. one problem with this is that slaughtering men women and children almost no matter who they are takes a toll on you. they're screaming in horror as you repeatedly plunge a two-edged sword into their body. and you have to do this town after town city after City as you slowly work your way across the promised Land. there are two cities where God sent hornets to drive out the inhabitants. but this doesn't kill them it simply moves them somewhere else. they're going to run off with their idols and all their evil and then they're going to come back later after you've moved in and try to make friends with you. after all this was their town. it's pretty much an unpassable test, God knew it Moses knew it and Joshua knew it. and we continue to take a test that we can't pass either.

eventually God will bring the test to an end. a few people will be saved by grace and everyone else will get thrown into the lake of fire. it's strange, it's as if the actual results even surprised God.

will there be a surprise ending? The Bible plainly states that Satan his angels the false beast and the false prophet go into the lake of fire and they are there for all of eternity. it also says that everyone whose name isn't written in the book of Life gets thrown into the lake of fire. now there's an indication that billions of people may fall into that category based on the fire that falls from heaven and consumes all those that have surrounded the city of the saints but it doesn't actually say that plainly. does God have some trick up that infinite sleeve? will all those people be saved just before their big toe hits the surface of the lake of fire? the Bible certainly doesn't say that.

Isaiah 63

[3] I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment.
[4] For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come.
[5] And I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to uphold: therefore mine own arm brought salvation unto me; and my fury, it upheld me.

Kamala Harris vice-president candidate

it's par for the course for the Democratic party to play the gender race card. now Kamala may be the best thing for the vice presidency since sliced bread. I've never heard of her but generally I'm not well informed on all the players. it is disappointing to see them pulling this at a time when the whole communist black lives matter thing is all over the place. it's also disappointing that they would play this when the slave reparation payments keeps popping up. do people really need to be paid money because their great great great great great grandmother was a slave?
in her acceptance speech she said you deserve so much more. so much more what? More government intervention in our lives? more taxes? more government hand-outs, more liberal changes to our laws that trample God's word underfoot?

secret agent

I wasn't going to come out of the closet quite yet, because well generally secret agents find it beneficial to remain secret. I've been under deep cover on a secret mission from a different dimension. there it is oh, now the world knows.

so why all the secrecy? well I don't know if you've noticed but people tend to live like they're going to live forever. but here is the horrible truth of it, we are all going to die.

here are a few quick tips on how to face this reality.

  • get your affairs in order
  • if you need to tell anyone that you love them do it now
  • if you're going to bring any of those skeletons out of the closet there's never a better time
  • that whole give your life to Jesus thing, do it now or never
  • go through your closet and get rid of any old clothes you're never going to wear
  • those disgusting car floor mats? stop at a car wash and wash them tomorrow
  • write a Will and stick it in your wallet or purse
  • that money you have hidden, tell your partner where it is.
  • that secret desire to divorce? move on or give it up.
  • start saying no to family get-togethers
  • start saying yes to your secret agenda
  • that thing you've always wanted to do, do it now.

say the fact is tomorrow probably will come. and strangely enough it will look almost identical to today. and this will keep repeating itself over and over and over. but, one day, tomorrow will not come. and it will be too late. one day too late.

slow down

on several of the surface streets in our town they have increased the speed limit by 5 miles an hour. these streets have been the same speed limit for the last 50 or 60 years. now they're five miles an hour faster. well i don't know what it's like in your neck of the woods, but where we live everybody drives 9.97 miles per hour over the speed limit. which now means people are driving an additional 5 miles an hour over the speed limit on these streets. which means you're almost going freeway speeds on slow freeways. so now they put up one of those big electric signs on the side of the road. it says slow down there's excessive speed on this road.

okay, if you say so.

constipation talk to doctor first

definitely talk to your doctor before doing this. but I have found a couple of things about constipation that seem to work. number one having a half of ounce of whiskey or tequila in my coffee at breakfast brings on a bowel movement, if I'm backed up. vodka works sometimes but not as well as tequila. if a half ounce doesn't do it don't try more. this certainly isn't advocating that you drink alcohol every morning with breakfast. I think Winston Churchill said that in old age he started drinking alcohol before breakfast, but it's hard to tell if he was basically just kidding or not. number two remain standing for a 1/2 hour or longer at a time. this seems to help keep things moving along. obviously you don't really need to talk to your doctor about standing up for longer than a half an hour.

Matthew Revelation the untold story

ding dong.... knock knock... well let's try one more time, ding dong

finally there's some sound from inside and the door unlocks and opens. you can see a man standing inside behind the glass screen door. there's no soliciting here the man says. no, the person outside replies we're not selling anything today, not anything that cost money. what is it the man inside asks. well I'm out letting people know about Matthew and Revelation in the Bible. I don't read the Bible remarks the man. and my preacher hasn't said anything about Matthew and revelation. well not too many people may know about this yet. I can tell you a little bit about it or I can leave this paper which has a brief outline and a blog that you can look at at the bottom. well says the man if there was anything important my preacher would tell me about it. have you talked to her? no, I haven't talked to her, I'm just going through the neighborhood and letting people know about it. well there's two churches in our town and our preachers pretty much know the Bible. would you like me to leave this paper clipped to your mailbox? or i can share the basic idea with you? yeah I suppose you can clip it to the mailbox there or here just to give it to me. the man unlocks the storm door and reaches out to take the paper. all right, well have a nice day.

the Matthew Revelation guy works his way down the street knocking on doors and talking to reluctant inhabitants. most people either don't answer or aren't home. but after going down one entire block no one has asked to actually hear what it's about. he's handed out a few pieces of paper. and heard about the preachers several times, who have never mentioned anything about the subject.

Wreath dream

In this dream I'm responsible for a small flower wreath. it is wrapped in some cellophane and then placed in some kind of case. in the dream I have an assistant who's responsible for maintaining all this. our boss shows up one day. He is an Italian guy who looks a lot like Danny DeVito. but he's very serious about this wreath. he says that it hasn't been maintained properly and that it smells like urine. I smell it repeatedly but can smell nothing. which I guess makes sense because this is a dream. my assistant either doesn't talk or doesn't say anything memorable. I start cleaning out the case that has flowers and greenery stuck in it. at first it's difficult to clean out but then I find an opening at the top which lifts up and makes it easy to remove. the wreath is already out of the case on the ground. we're going to get a new one but never do in the dream. then I'm going to take the case outside but it's very hot and the sun is out and I don't have a shirt on. I step outside and it's one of those exit doors that locks when you get out so I say hey I better go back inside and clean this out inside. which I do. the wreath needs to be present at a meeting that's about to take place, which takes place each week. but this week it will not be there. my assistant goes off to explain. There doesn't seem to be any real downside to the wreath not being there it would simply sit in the meeting I don't know who these people are or what the point of the wreath is or what the meeting is about or where the building is or what my role is. other than wreath maintainer.

I just don't get it

Why is this car thing so difficult? Why can't we produce a car that cost about $5,000?

Here's the basic idea. It has a battery. but instead of a battery with all these incredibly difficult and expensive and rare metals and all this stuff, it has a battery made out of sand and water and iron. no I don't have any idea how the physics of all this stuff works and how electrons flow through all this different stuff but I just know I want a cheap simple safe battery that doesn't pollute. If I have to replace the battery every 5000 miles so what. Make it cheap make it so easy that anybody can basically pull the thing out and Snapple want another one in. So that solves the battery a battery made out of water and sand and iron why did it take so long to think this up? The next thing we need is to simplify the drivetrain. It needs one motor probably on the passenger rear tire. We want an incredibly simple drivetrain. We don't want for motors all controlled by some super computer. We want one motor driving one wheel attached to the accelerator with your foot is pushing. Now I need to simplify the rest of it to. The thing basically needs to be a commuter. It isn't really made for bad weather. If you're going to go out on the snow and ice it's got to have some easy way to put on chains. The brakes need to be simple. It doesn't need ABS brakes. It doesn't need a lot of the crazy stuff that we built into these things. Oddly enough it does need airbags. It needs seat belts. And it needs some sort of reasonable roll cage concept. The thing could almost be made out of plastic except for the roll cage. Here's the basic idea, think matchbox car blown up to full scale. Then think at the minimal amount of stuff to create a reasonably safe car made for reasonable weather. now this car may not work back East where there's long periods of really bad weather with extremely dangerous slippery roads. But guess what millions and millions of people probably over a hundred million people live south of that area between Florida and California. These cars would be super cheap and super easy to build. Oh yeah you could even have the attitude but on snow days you take Uber or Lyft. Why can't we think outside the box? Because we're so busy competing I'm building super complicated stuff there were just not thinking what is it that people really want? Now the people that review these things they all want a Maserati for $20,000. But that's not what the average driver wants. Of course everybody dreams of a Maserati a Porsche a Ferrari and now the mid-engine Corvette, but they're not really going to drive that. They need to get back and forth to work safely maybe with a car seat and some reasonable safety features for kids. and the stuff I've seen were putting in cars now for kids is already pretty simple.

Let's quit building stuff that requires a million parts and a million miles of wiring and a whole bunch of complicated technology and get back to the model t with a heater and an air conditioner.

zardoz the movie

this movie came out when i only had money for James Bond movies, but this has Sean Connery, so i got sucked in. at the time it was truly bad. Sean's outfit looked completely humiliating. see the reviews from Wikipedia below. it's also interesting that there hasn't been a remake with so much CGI that you can't make heads or tails of it. at the time i vaguely got the idea of ruthless mortals and bored to death immortals. then there was Sean in that outfit, unfit for human visualization.

looking back, this was a project for Sean similar to what "mosquito coast" must have been for Harrison Ford. both movies are a waste of time that somehow become memorable.

see the whole article, skip the movie. the 70s was a strange time for movies.

Wikipedia Zardoz

Pauline Kael of The New Yorker wrote that the script "lacks the human dimensions that would make us care about the big visual sequences" and burdened the actors with "unspeakable dialogue," and also remarked that Connery "acts like a man who agreed to do something before he grasped what it was."[32]

In 2013 Will Thomas of Empire Magazine wrote of Zardoz "You have to hand it to John Boorman. When he’s brilliant, he’s brilliant (Point Blank, Deliverance) but when he’s terrible, he’s really terrible. A fascinating reminder of what cinematic science fiction used to be like before Star Wars, this risible hodge-podge of literary allusions, highbrow porn, sci-fi staples, half baked intellectualism and a real desire to do something revelatory misses the mark by a hundred miles but has elements — its badness being one of them — that make it strangely compelling."[33]

vacuum the thermostat

do not try this at home. this should only be attempted by a professional on a closed course. or if you are adventurous and your house thermostat is dirty. NEVER get your thermostat wet with water or any cleaner ! ok ? get it ?

see those little slots on the top, well there are some on the bottom also. vacuum those with a brush attachment. if you really want to go all out, unsnap the unit from the wall and vacuum the inside. be extremely gentle. get all the dust and cobwebs.

my thermostat worked considerably better after this. your experience may differ. in theory the thermostat could be damaged. be careful or just call a professional.

oh, check the batteries and replace it needed.

the problem with automation

the real problem with automation is that fewer and fewer people are supplying the basic needs for almost everyone. in other words 8 billion people are becoming incredibly dependent on a few million people. let's say 7.8 billion people are dependent on the remaining few. the 7.8 billion people are providing goods and services that are not necessary for survival but are fun to use. but what that means at a lower level is that if there are too few people providing critical resources to the entire planet. it would take a very small disruption to put the planet in a critical situation where billions and billions of people's lives could be in jeopardy. let's think this through.

the most important thing people need is heat. if you take away all heat people would die almost instantly. currently we have the sun so I think we're okay.

the next most critical thing we need is air and specifically oxygen. currently the atmosphere provides this and so I think we're okay there also.

but now things get more difficult.

the next most critical thing we need is water. 75% of the planet is under water. unfortunately as the poem reads water water everywhere and not a drop to drink. the vast majority of the water is so salty we can't drink it. if you drink it within a short amount of time it will kill you. it isn't poison it just has too much salt. there is fresh water on the land and underground but it requires staying close to that water to use it. and if humans go without water for 3 days they will die. and in extreme situations without water in just a few hours you will die. so some super fancy advanced way to desalinate water would be nice. but still the human race largely puts a few people in charge of making sure that the rest of us all have water. if those people all suddenly vanish it wouldn't be a threat to the entire planet but it would certainly cause some panic in the short run. if I turned on my sink and no water came out I would have no idea what to do about it, how about you?

the next most critical thing we need is food. a healthy person can survive several weeks on water, but will starve to death pretty soon. also if you become too weak you may not be able to recover even with more food. just a short time ago more than half the people worked to provide food. now a few million people provide food for 8 billion people. of course people are smart and growing basic food isn't terribly difficult, but it takes time and land. it generally takes a stable environment where people aren't trying to kill each other. Starving people get testy. people in the cities are incredibly vulnerable, people elsewhere are less vulnerable. let's see, where are most people?

in an ideal world each person would be able to seamlessly produce all their own water and food if necessary. since water is already abundant and food largely grows by itself we would still have plenty of time to do other things, like build electric cars and smart phones. it seems like we have plenty of brain cells to carry on in a way that ensures the survival of our species, the question is why don't we?

...

the future of employment

what will people be doing in a hundred years? in the 18 hundreds people started asking, with all this industrial revolution and uses of machinery what jobs are going to be left for people? people will just be sitting around. especially the labor force, the blue collar workers that make the whole thing work. they will all just be replaced by machines, like the cotton gin. now you may notice that there aren't too many horses on the road and there aren't too many horses out plowing fields. so, the industrial revolution has pretty much put the horse out of work. another exciting job that horses had was riding into battle. well nobody's going to be riding a horse into battle these days against drones and smart bombs sent from thousands of miles away. but somehow people are different. although you have to admit we certainly don't send as many people in the battle as we used to. I think we've lost somewhere around 8,000 people in the middle East in the last 25 years. at the end of world war II there were times they were losing 8000 people a day. somehow we always managed to keep people employed. they go to work somewhere and they keep the economy humming along. so the next threat to people's jobs was the digital information age. which also helped advance the robot age. now compared to movies, robots still look sort of simplistic and unimpressive but I think they put about 80% of the workforce out of work in the automotive industry. apparently those people are now on welfare or sitting at a desk job somewhere, or driving an Amazon delivery truck. so there are thousands and thousands of people driving trucks and cars these days. but wait, self-driving cars are going to put them all out of business. so maybe they'll all be sitting at desk somewhere constantly creating improvements to software to beef up the robots and all the stuff that's being done by automated machinery. and if that problem isn't big enough then we have artificial intelligence. I mean who needs humans, we can just artificially create intelligence. humans are messy and need health care. they're racist, they're sexist, they cheat steal and lie, and worst of all some of them are Republicans. but with artificial intelligence we just don't need people anymore. well let's see we have 8 billion of them.

somehow we keep overlooking that people do stuff by and large for other people. even when we were largely agricultural, people would trade and still used some sort of money. you can't trade money with animals just people. the whole thing feeds on itself. people are creating artificial intelligence basically for two reasons. to play games really smart and to sell people more stuff. if people start being out of work and not buying the stuff then they won't use that artificial intelligence anymore. oh we can use artificial intelligence to destroy other countries and take away their stuff. this works in the short run but if you're highly successful at it pretty soon there won't be anybody else to take over. I'm not sure where this is going at this point and that seems to be the problem we had with the whole subject of the advancement of technology and what it means to humans.

for now why don't we press on and see how it works out.

Grow up democrats

I'm tired of the government treating us like we're a bunch of three year olds. like we can't change our own diaper. like if they don't give us another stimulus package oer pass some other 10,000 page legislation to take over our lives that we'll somehow get malnutrition by sucking on 2% milk out of our bottles. we're supposed to be doing great things to make America great not depending on the government the pass a bunch of stupid legislation to make us all slaves. Obamacare is straight from hell. these giant legislation packages that the Democrats keep putting out are all straight from hell.

..

we will make it work

Grow up

everything you've got

you'll have to give it everything you've got even though that might not be a lot

sort of real dream

 key scenes

on golf course, gliding

we are at a golf course but not playing golf. i have a glider and am rolling it downhill to take off. near the end it finally lifts off in slow motion. another person has a simple blue gliding boat. it floats in air but must keep moving or it will drift to the ground. this part of the dream seemed the longest. people are playing golf but ignore us with our gliders. i spend a bunch of time, but don't get frustrated.

at arena with horses in background

we are at a sports arena but not in the main area. the ground is all dirt. in the background is an irregular block wall. it goes up about four feet. it's kind of a retaining wall. the blocks were painted white at some time in the past and then that wall was torn down and the blocks are being reused in this wall. by irregular I mean that the wall is plumb but it is not level the blocks are more less laid along the ground. the horses are in the background. they are brown and not saddled. there doesn't seem to be any point to this part of the dream. there are a few people but we stand and don't do anything.

? there may be a shorter scene here ?

at house having dinner, 4 people

I'm living in a house with 2 women. we are all single. one woman is dating Pierce Brosnan. one woman ownes the house. it is over crowded with nice wooden furniture. Pierce comes to dinner. it goes nicely. at the end the date woman asks if she gets a painting of herself would Pierce hang it in his bathroom. She whispered something at the end. Pierce smiles and says yes. there are 4 things on our plates to eat. they are all the courses of the meal. i eat 2, i save the 3rd thing as a snack for later, and eat the dessert after everyone gets up from the table. the dessert is a cupcake that you build yourself. the frosting is the kind i don't like, but in the dream it is ok. actually, in the dream the host asked me if I'm going to eat the last two things. I say I'm going to save them for later, but then stay at the table and eat the cupcake. they are making small talk around the table waiting for me to finish. then we all leave the room and I have to squeeze between a grand piano and a table. Pierce leaves. the last thing I say is well that seemed to go well.

in this entire dream I am a participant but everyone seems to treat me as though I'm simply observing. in other words there isn't any sort of dynamic energy between us. the whole thing seems like a British movie where they just completely leave out all the emotion. in the dinner scene everyone is polite and comfortable there's never a hint of discomfort or uncertainty. for instance no one questions me sitting at the table after everyone gets up.

eagle family discussions

apparently if eagles have two or three eggs and they all hatch, only one of them ever grows up. they all hatch and Mom and Dad are furiously feeding all three of them. then after a few weeks one of them gets a little bit bigger than the other two. while Mom and Dad are out hunting the big one says to himself, I think I can take these guys. and plus that means I'll grow up much faster on all the extra food. he then attacks the other two and kills them. when Mom and Dad come home they say oh my gosh honey what happened? the little guy looks up with sorrowful eyes and a bloody beak and says it was horrible mom it was horrible you should have been here. then they feed him enough food for all three and toss the dead bodies out.

the government

I don't know what to tell you

but I'll tell you what I know

 the liberals and conservatives

can put on quite a show

I don't know what to tell

you but I'll tell you what I know

they're both trying to tell you

the other one's got to go

oddly enough it takes two parties

 to make the party work

if you only have one party

then that one will go berserk

 the Democrats look like China

and the Republicans well we're not sure

 the conservatives love the Constitution

and the liberals love to win

they're both spending money

with no plans to pay it back

they keep blaming each other

for the conscience that they lack

I don't know what to tell you

but I'll tell you what I know

our leaders lost their mind

 in 1956

they used to have a spine

now all they've got is tricks

I'll tear up your speech

in front of the whole world

I'll call you crazy

you're just a silly girl

the conservatives say God bless you

like any beggar that you meet

the liberals say who needs God

we can stand on our own two feet.

I don't know what to tell you I don't know what to tell you I don't know what to tell you anymore

freedom

freedom's just another word for passing on the right if you're not passing on the right you're just not free.

covid-19 is a bunch of crap

at this point the whole covid-19 thing is a bunch of crap. people are getting it but my understanding is about 4 out of 10,000 people die who actually get the virus. this is somewhat similar to what happens from the normal flu. now we do need to watch and be aware that these things can go in different directions. but at this point we should be wearing masks and everybody should go back to work and sort of do their normal work activities. it's just not that big of a deal. I mean if everybody on the planet ends up with the thing eventually some people are going to die but guess what? everybody is going to die.

which brings me to my next rant. the healthcare systems. healthcare systems are not God. there are approximately 350 million people in America. the healthcare system was never intended to babysit all 350 million people at one time. what we do need is a reasonable plan of action if all three hundred and fifty million people should get sick and say 100 million of them died over a several week period. we would be able to dispose of the bodies and help people to die in some sort of reasonable civilized way. pretty much the same thing we did for the Spanish flu. millions of people died we laid out hundreds of thousands of cots and let people lie quietly and die. in the end God kills people and God keeps people alive. it's really not our job to play God. now of course I'm healthy and my family has a long history of pretty good health and reasonably long life so it's easy for me to have this attitude. then again I could be dead tomorrow.

God's TO-DO list

  • create heaven
  • create universe
  • create Satan
  • create everyone else
  • become engrossed with the ensuing disaster

this means something

I've only been fired one time in my entire life. i did get let go from a couple of jobs in high school but they were just summer jobs so that doesn't count. the strange thing about the one time that I actually got fired was that I had almost no negative energy experiences with the other workers or any of my bosses. they kept giving me negative feedback verbally but they just had no real energy behind the feedback. they kept saying things like this is very serious and we're about to have a very difficult conversation. but then what followed was never stressful or difficult it just didn't feel very serious. somehow the kind of energy that we had just completely did not sync up. it didn't feel serious I didn't feel stressful. and then they let me go. I guess when you love someone you have to let them go.

it's also interesting that the work I was doing was actually world class work. it was work that customers ended up using and loving. it was work that your mom would be proud of. but they told us in college that 85 to 90% of the time people get fired because of people issues, not because of the work they're actually doing. another words they're doing the work just fine but somehow they just don't match up with the people. interesting.

the new house

there's nothing quite like the thrill of a new house.. all that great sex you're going to have. that little family you are going to start. of course the reality of the whole thing hasn't really set in. the maintenance the bills bills the family fights. that long grinding treadmill  trying to get the thing paid off. and why exactly are you doing all this? so you can die of a heart attack or cancer or anarchists or Communists ore Democrats.

oh i almost forgot, or a virus.

actually I knew one family where the couple really did both claim to be having lots of great bedroom activity. they had four kids they had the house paid off it seemed like things were going great. then it all seemed to just implode for some reason. they had some huge family fights some of their kids got into pretty serious trouble. some didn't though. but I'm not even sure if the couple was able to stay together. after being married for over 20 years and raising a family of four and getting a house paid off they seemed to just come unglued. strange world.

I read something on the Internet that supposedly couples that share the work around the house 50/50 have sex more often and more satisfying sex. you have to wonder if a woman wrote that. I'll see if I can find it.
