dream

just had this dream. we're staying in a nine-story hotel. there are some other guys there none of which I recognized. we're using the elevator a lot for some reason. then a grand piano arrives which has to be taken up to the 9th floor. they work on it for quite a while to get it into the elevator standing on its end. it's mostly wrapped in those heavy packing blankets. and it's a black piano. finally they get onto the elevator and the door starts to close. but for some reason it gets about halfway down and reopens. some other people walk up that are asking what's going on. so I explained to them that we're getting this piano loaded to go upstairs. then I tell them, think about how much weight is on this elevator. this piano must weigh about a thousand pounds and there's seven or eight guys on there with it. there must be over a ton of weight in that elevator right now. then I go over and manually help the door close. The elevator goes up. then I look in a mirror and Teresa Crago is standing there talking to me in the mirror. I can see her off to one side and I can see her in the mirror. she is the only thing visible in the mirror though there's a white background behind her in the mirror which isn't in real life when I look at her out of the mirror. she says something like hi and she talks to me and says something like you really been busy although that isn't an exact quote. she's dressed in all white and every hair is perfectly in place. she looks very attractive as she usually does. then she's gone from the dream. then I'm at a house and some guy comes in and shoots me with a tranquilizer dart. he asked me about a blue pullover winter cap that I have. it has two big paper clips on it which I take off and say, here put this on. the tranquilizer dart has some minor effect on me but he isn't trying to hurt me or do anything but he just wants to ask me some questions. oddly enough he puts the cap on. I think he asked me something about the hotel and what I'm doing there. and I think I say something about the Bible maybe. anyway we drive over to the hotel. Yes the hotel where the piano is we drive back over there. somebody in the car says that my brother used to work at this hotel. all of this stuff seems very unrelated.. then we go inside and get into the elevator everybody pushes a button but I don't remember what floor I'm supposed to go to and the 9th floor button is off on the side and I say am I supposed to go to floor 9 and someone says yes so I push that button. that is the end of the dream.

leasing cars and apartments is such a hassle. it's nice to be able to travel and get in out of the weather. still it would be nice to have carefree transportation and living, without attached neighbors. auto-pay should make it easier, but things involving money seem to attract errors and glitches.

the new car

the new car got an oil change recently so it was ready for the vail run. the goal isn't to drive there super fast, as i70 is under significant repair and maintenance. also people die routinely on i70 in the Rockies. if falling rocks don't kill you the crazy drivers and dangerous road conditions will. it has some steep grades and relatively sharp curves for a freeway. the one saving Grace this year is covid-19. there are about 30% of the regular cars, but still lots of trucks. this car did 90mph Up Floyd Hill. there are lots of cars that can do it, i just never owned one. look up this Hill. it's disasters are legendary.

anyway the drive was nice.

i got into 3 or 4 ego battles with pickups. we would jostle back and forth. it isn't clear why we do this. it is dangerous as we zip past crawling semi's at 85mph. not real smart, but did it anyway, even at 63 years old.

it rained, it snowed and the sun was out some. there were dangerous high winds. the car did well.

the bad news is Vail. it is packed with condos. it feels strangely unfriendly. maybe the virus has worn everyone out. one cute girl lowered her mask and gave me a big friendly hello. that was very sweet. i hope Jesus let's her into the eternal Paradise at the first Resurrection. but vail itself is so densely packed with condos it feels depressing. i wonder if that girl would come live with me.

i am alone

for the first time in my life i am alone. no one calls. no one says where were you last night. alone. there are people in my life, and they are giving me lots of space. it's a feeling that feels good. it is easy to see how this might concern most people. the sense that there is no schedule and nothing to do. go to bed early, go to bed late. get up for an hour at 2 AM, sleep all night. get up at 4AM, get up late. stay in all day. drive off and stay somewhere else. think how we are driven by plans and expectations. driven by meaningless needs. earn, spend, die. do you have a job? can you make ends meet? we can't live disconnected. where would you go? where would you sleep. what would you eat. life itself is a massive deception created to force us to engage. why doesn't life start by a coach saying, well which route would you like? the go it alone? or the life of social engagement? you might ask for the pros and cons.

what if God and Satan we're hosting a giant viral hoax? see if you look at the actual number of people dying it's not that much different from the number of people that normal die from the seasonal flu. in other words It could just be a particularly bad flu season. nothing actually out of the ordinary. I mean every flu season a few young people die people of every age die but it's mostly old people. g that's starting to sound a lot like a certain viral scourge threatening to decimate the planet only it's not decimating the planet it's not even decimating the human population. anyway so God and Satan decide to host this giant hoax using this virus that really isn't very different from any other virus that gives you the flu. amazingly it has flu-like symptoms gee let's see here a new virus that isn't the flu but gives you flu-like symptoms and mostly kills old people and not really even that many of them. hahaha says God. Satan's not laughing much these days since he knows his time is getting shorter and shorter soon he'll get thrown into the lake of fire he's basically just doing whatever God tells him to do oh well.

so why are all these viruses coming out of China? maybe God is trying to tell china to clean up their act. maybe God is using China to punish the rest of the world. not really sure. that's the thing that's difficult about God. if you look in the Bible unless God tells you why bad stuff is happening it's pretty much impossible to know why. you noticed that the Kings and sometimes just people in general would inquire of God to find out why bad stuff was happening. for instance several times people flee to Egypt to escape starvation or being slaughtered by the Romans or something you don't really know why God is doing this. all part of some crazy plan to create a stable eternal universe. well in fact if you look at the end of Revelation there will actually be too stable universes a new heaven and a new Earth. why not three? why not one? I like pondering as I'm wondering.

My life as a software developer

Over the years, as a software developer, you will put up with a ton of sh*t.

When you look back over your career it will begin to pile up and at times seem like all that horse pucky could not have possibly occurred on your watch. But guess what? it did.

All the crazy bosses, all the crazy schedules, all the crazy customers, all the crazy co-workers. and over time schedules went away and just became management demands by a set date. They might say something like, "All this has to be complete and ready for production in six weeks on that Friday." In the beginning dates were negotiable, but over the years they just became concrete walls that were supposed to be feared and respected. And when events get out of control, the schedule will magically shorten, sometimes by weeks, with the expectation that the same product will be delivered.

You will watch younger colleagues sweat and turn pale, while you fake concern and a belief that it will all work as management demands. Others will quit, while you pretend to believe the impossible will happen. Sometimes everyone gets laid off, sometimes the project slips, sometimes it just all works out. You will learn over the years that management lives in a reality warped zone where all sorts of crazy things can occur. A place where networks never go down, and code libraries always work exactly as expected. They live in a place where developers never try hard enough or smart enough. They get to the end of their careers and congratulate themselves on all the messed up stuff they delivered and all the unenlightened software developers they had to endure. They and they alone were the software super-stars, you were the fodder.

On incredibly rare occasions the software developers turn out to be the super star. Their names might be Bill, Larry, Sergey, Steve, Mark. But you will also notice that over time these rare gems morph into super salesmen and corporate leaders. They must produce an ever more fantastic vision of the future to keep their dream alive. This is the nature of software stardom, this is the nature of producing a product the world has never seen before.

tired of the virus

it seems like we are somewhat adjusting 2 viral procedures. Still lots of things are going to have to get back to normal. for instance our whole medical system is sort of on emergency standby for the virus stuff. so it's somewhat disruptive if you happen to have some other kind of illness. you'll still get taken care of but everyone is sort of standing around wondering if they're going to get hit with a big virus in flux. restaurants are obviously taking a huge hit. it's going to be tough to go into a sit-down restaurant with a mask on. so there's issues like that. most other store experiences though could sort of function in steady-state mode like this. sort of just staying away from other people for the most part and wearing a mask. even fast food places could kind of function that way as long as you just sat far enough away from other people in the restaurant. of course the playground is not going to work unless you just accept kids are going to sneeze and cough all over each other like they normally do. it's just getting old.

we could try the approach where, on a global scale, we read the Bible and repent of all the stuff we're doing wrong. but it is obvious at this point that we're not going to do anything remotely like that. first of all if you look at the video of Boris Johnson did after he got out of the hospital there was no mention of any sort of religious involvement at all other than to say Happy Easter. there was no sense of trying to make God happy or sad or angry or glad or anything. it was just all about how we were attacked by an enemy that we didn't completely understand. the idea that we were attacked because of our sin and the idea of looking at something like Matthew 13 10 through 18 was pretty much off the plate. the idea that we would repent and be healed simply hasn't really been addressed by anyone. it's just this physical scientific thing and we need to learn how to find a cure for viruses in general and then go on sinning however we want to somehow thinking that we're making God happy.

there is one sign in a person's front yard saying that we need to turn to Jesus for healing. maybe the news has addressed the idea, haven't heard it though.

it seems like people are actually doing the things that doctors and science have been saying we should do since the 1960s. wash our hands, don't cough on people, cover your cough or sneeze. you don't see anyone sneezing or coughing in public these days. it seems like people know if you have a little cough everyone's going to think oh my God they've got the virus. when I was younger I was very healthy. my attitude was, the flu, pneumonia and colds are for other people. I'm very healthy so I don't need to wash my hands very often I don't sneeze or cough anyway so it doesn't really apply to me. so was easy just to ignore the seasonal warnings, ignore getting a flu shot, just ignore all that stuff and go on with life. now I'm old, worn out, tired and run down, so it seems like washing my hands every once in awhile isn't such a tough concession to make to be a little bit healthier.

so it turns out God can be as subtle as a 10 lb sledge hammer and as mysterious I love floating Downy feather

it's on January 17th of this year I got fired. this gave me time to adjust to the idea and I might not be making some money for a while. so I had to adjust my spending adjust my transportation needs adjust my living arrangements adjust adjust a jost. so you can say well that was just a random coincidence but now we have the Barros courage decimating the planet's population. and you've already made some of the adjustments necessary for a living under such austere conditions.

there's a church group that we used to study with. this church group or do a special Easter service event each year. well this year back in January they sent out a letter saying dude unfortunate events they were not going to be able to have their normal Easter activities. this was before we realized how disruptive the deadly killer coronavirus would be. so they were able to cancel DirecTV t's without really having to change people's schedules because nothing ever got scheduled. four other Church groups it's been somewhat of a shock my brother shirts group the new couple of months earlier do the other unforeseen problems.

why does God do things this way? it isn't clear. is a random? is it chaos? is it some incredibly complex plan where future events are manipulated and some subtle and sometimes bizarre ways? the Bible has already fixed what the end will look like. why does the journey seem so unpredictable? and quite often painful and unexplainable? my grandmother was one of the few people I've ever known lay down to take a nap and her breathing just got more and more shallow with family and loved ones standing around she simply stopped breathing and passed away. I think James Bond is the only one I've ever seen do that except for my grandmother. and she wasn't in a movie.

good afternoon I've today left hospital after a
week in which the NHS has saved my life. no doubt about it
no question it's hard to find words to express my debt
but before i come to that i want to
thank everyone in the entire UK
for the effort and the sacrifice you have made
and are making. when the sun is out and the kids are at home
and the whole world seems at it's loveliest
and the whole world is so inviting
i can only imagine how tough it has been to
follow the rules on social distancing
i thank you because so many millions and millions of people
across this country have been doing the right thing
millions going through the hardship of self isolation
faithfully patiently and with thought and care for others
as well as for themselves
i do want you to know that this Easter Sunday
your efforts are worth it and are daily
proving their worth because
we mourn every day those that are taken from
us in such numbers and that the struggle
is by no means over we
are making progress in this incredible national battle
against cironavirus
a fight we never picked against an enemy we don't
entirely understand.
we're making progress in this national battle
because the British public
formed a human shield around this countries
greatest national asset
our national health service
we understood and we decided together
if we could keep our NHS safe
if we could stop our NHS from being overwhelmed
then we could not be beaten and this country
would rise together and overcome this challenge
as we have overcome so many challenges in the past
in the last seven days off course i have seen the pressure
that the NHS is under.
I've seen the personal courage not just of the doctors

radiographers pharmacists
who've kept coming to work kept putting themselves
in harm's way. kept risking this deadly virus
it is thanks to that courage that devotion
that duty and that love
that our NHS has been unbeatable.
i want to pay my own thanks to the utterly
brilliant doctors leaders in their fields
men and women several of them for some reason
called nick took some crucial decisions
a few days ago which i will be grateful for
for the rest of my life
i want to thank the many nurses men and women
who's care has been astonishing
I'm gonna get some names so please forgive me
but i want to thank polling and Shannon and
Emily and angel and Becky and Rachel and
Nicky and Ann and i hope they won't mind
if i mention in particular two nurses who
stood by my bedside for forty eight hours when things
could have gone either way.

every second of the night they were watching

and precision as Jenny and Louis
that is why we will defeat this coronavirus
and defeat it together.
we will win because our NHS is the beating heart
of this country. it is the best of this country.
it is unconquerable. it is powered by love. so thank you

Good Evening,

The coronavirus is the biggest threat this country has faced for decades – and this country is not alone.

All over the world we are seeing the devastating impact of this invisible killer.

And so tonight I want to update you on the latest steps we are taking to fight the disease and what you can do to help.

And I want to begin by reminding you why the UK has been taking the approach that we have.

Without a huge national effort to halt the growth of this virus, there will come a moment when no health service in the world could possibly cope; because there won’t be enough ventilators, enough intensive care beds, enough doctors and nurses.

And as we have seen elsewhere, in other countries that also have fantastic health care systems, that is the moment of real danger.

To put it simply, if too many people become seriously unwell at one time, the NHS will be unable to handle it - meaning more people are likely to die, not just from Coronavirus but from other illnesses as well.

So it’s vital to slow the spread of the disease.

Because that is the way we reduce the number of people needing hospital treatment at any one time, so we can protect the NHS’s ability to cope - and save more lives.

And that’s why we have been asking people to stay at home during this pandemic.

And though huge numbers are complying - and I thank you all - the time has now come for us all to do more.

From this evening I must give the British people a very simple instruction - you must stay at home.

Because the critical thing we must do is stop the disease spreading between households.

That is why people will only be allowed to leave their home for the following very limited purposes:

shopping for basic necessities, as infrequently as possible
one form of exercise a day - for example a run, walk, or cycle - alone or with members of your household;
any medical need, to provide care or to help a vulnerable person; and
travelling to and from work, but only where this is absolutely necessary and cannot be done from home.
That’s all - these are the only reasons you should leave your home.

You should not be meeting friends. If your friends ask you to meet, you should say No.

You should not be meeting family members who do not live in your home.

You should not be going shopping except for essentials like food and medicine - and you should do this as little as you can. And use food delivery services where you can.

If you don’t follow the rules the police will have the powers to enforce them, including through fines and dispersing gatherings.

To ensure compliance with the Government’s instruction to stay at home, we will immediately:

close all shops selling non-essential goods, including clothing and electronic stores and other premises including libraries, playgrounds and outdoor gyms, and places of worship;
we will stop all gatherings of more than two people in public – excluding people you live with;
and we’ll stop all social events, including weddings, baptisms and other ceremonies, but excluding funerals.
Parks will remain open for exercise but gatherings will be dispersed.

No Prime Minister wants to enact measures like this.

I know the damage that this disruption is doing and will do to people’s lives, to their businesses and to their jobs.

And that’s why we have produced a huge and unprecedented programme of support both for workers and for business.

And I can assure you that we will keep these restrictions under constant review. We will look again in three weeks, and relax them if the evidence shows we are able to.

But at present there are just no easy options. The way ahead is hard, and it is still true that many lives will sadly be lost.

And yet it is also true that there is a clear way through.

Day by day we are strengthening our amazing NHS with 7500 former clinicians now coming back to the service.

With the time you buy - by simply staying at home - we are increasing our stocks of equipment.

We are accelerating our search for treatments.

We are pioneering work on a vaccine.

And we are buying millions of testing kits that will enable us to turn the tide on this invisible killer.

I want to thank everyone who is working flat out to beat the virus.

Everyone from the supermarket staff to the transport workers to the carers to the nurses and doctors on the frontline.

But in this fight we can be in no doubt that each and every one of us is directly enlisted.

Each and every one of us is now obliged to join together.

To halt the spread of this disease.

To protect our NHS and to save many many thousands of lives.

And I know that as they have in the past so many times.

The people of this country will rise to that challenge.

And we will come through it stronger than ever.

We will beat the coronavirus and we will beat it together.

And therefore I urge you at this moment of national emergency to stay at home, protect our NHS and save lives.

working from home

the whole working from home thing is actually a bad idea. there were some companies that were figuring that out and forcing people to return to an office environment, like Honeywell. when God and Satan saw that it was starting to stall they decided to give it another try. Make people potentially lethal to one another. worked like a charm.

my new phone

this new xiaomi phone has a huge battery. it rarely goes below 50%. it has a huge screen and does lots of cool stuff. it's not perfect, but it was less than $200!

church parking lot

behind one of our houses was a church parking lot. this church parking lot belong to the Catholic Church. it turns out the Catholic Church is at most useless and possibly a real problem. it will be interesting to see what Jesus does with them on judgement day. of course all the false religions will be thrown into the lake of fire. notice I said false religions not all the participants of those false religions. because people from all the different nations and all religions will eventually figure out hey the real answer here is Jesus and we should worship Jesus and they will be saved while there will be some Jews who by the way are God's chosen people that won't make it. anyway I'm sort of gotten off the subject here. the subject was the parking lot of the Catholic Church behind our house. well it turns out that parking lots are great place for kids to hang out in their cars. and also turns out that they like to smoke pot. and as fate would have it they like to turn the radios up real loud. so all this pot smoking and loud music playing is going on right outside my window in my house. so I called the Catholic church and I say get somebody over there and run those kids off. and they won't do it. the priest actually says to me you go over and talk to them if you want them to leave. yeah I'll do that so it's about 11 at night and they're over there with their radios turned up full blast smoking pot so I start praying my God will get rid of them. after praying for about a half an hour over by the window my wife starts mocking me. but she believes in Jesus but she just didn't have very much faith in my prayers. anyway I continue praying and I'm praying pretty intensely and finally they leave. there really isn't any substantial evidence that all that praying really made them leave on that particular night. this was going to be a real problem but guess what? they didn't come back the next night and didn't come back tonight after that and didn't come back any more nights until we moved out of that house 20 years later nobody ever came back. so maybe there is a God after all. that's the thing about God he's kind of sneaking around the background. one these days he's not going to be sneaking anymore though. that is going to be one very scary day. for everybody. so oh I called the police also. police said we'll come by in a half an hour. but I was watching through the cracks in the window and no police came they just won't come unless their areshots fired or officer down. then they'll come otherwise they're just not coming in the big city.

the automotive industry

For someone, not unlike myself, that is cheap the car industry is a really frustrating place. The most fun cars generally are not the cheapest cars. If they were then the other cars would go away, since nobody would want them, and the cheapest cars would be the only cars. But as fate, God, the universe and everything else has it, the really fun cars cost lots. There can be significant fun in the less expensive vehicles, but they will still require more maintenance and generally will wear out sooner. There isn't a simple rational for this, but it is likely that the really fun chariots cost the most, and the cheapest ones weren't nearly as fun.

The weird thing is that some of the cheapest modern cars last the longest and cost very little to operate. It used to be that the cheap stuff broke down the most and lasted only a short time. Now this doesn't seem to be the case with cars. But don't forget, the cheapest modern cars are not much fun to drive. Some people dress them up and make them look racy, but under the hood is that same 150 HP engine with a top speed of 110 MPH. What is also strange is that the dressed up cheap cars then start costing as much as the low end fun cars. So my attitude is if its going to be a cheap car, for heavens sake, keep it cheap. Looks don't do it for me, fun is fun, cheap is cheap. If you really want to throw in some fun, get a low end fun car, and pay at least 30% more. Unfortunately the fun car will cost more to buy, own and drive and then to make it worse will wear out sooner. Oh well, cheap boring cars last longer so you can live a longer dull boring life. Somehow it all makes sense. This fits in nicely with the whole, "the candle that burns brightest burns out the quickest."

On a more positive note, cheap cars last longer for the very reason that they are under powered and don't handle extremely well. The more powerful agile cars encounter more abuse and physical stress which helps wear them out. So plod along for a long time or zip around and pay much more.
